The Old Cutler Marlin Spike knife harkens to the traditional early 18th century sailor's knife that became standard military issue by the British Navy in 1757. The knife did double duty for the sailor with the spike assisting in separating rope strands for splicing. Still employed today, we find ours particularly handy in untying dry hardened knots or those tied by the novice. The Old Cutler knife, blade and spike is of 440 stainless with polished handles of east Indies Cocobolo wood affixed with brass pins. Light, at 2.5 ounces and 4.5" long when closed, a fine on-the-water pocket knife.
