Made in Quebec, our Canadian Guideboat is a classic guide craft; true old school, durable and easily repairable. The boat has ash ribs and white cedar strip hull, covered with epoxied canvas. The boat has a unique 3 keel design that helps it track superbly (straight ahead rather than slowly veering off). It comes with two laminated Poplar oars, 6.5' spoon blade, unfinished grip. Many of our vintage boats at Guideboat are canvas over wood. The handsome golden saffron color you see below the waterline is treated with shellac over the canvas. The traditional construction allows for swift and facile on-the-go repair or reinforcement as needed. If the boat is rowed over a large rock and is gouged one can pull it up on shore, flip it over, dry it off, brush on some new shellac (available in easily portable tins for just such an occasion) and within minutes she is ready to ply the waters again. Replete with mahogany trim, complimenting the ash, cedar and cherry construction she is quite a beauty. The boat holds 3 adults and may be fitted with up to a 4 hp gas engine or any size of electric trolling motor.

Prior to summering in the Hamptons or Tahoe became chic, the late 1800’s witnessed Adirondack Guideboats ferrying the likes of Morgan, Rockefeller and Post to their captain of industry Adirondack camps, deep woods lakeside retreats, each grander than the other. Without road let alone path but graced with endless and pristine lakes, the way in was by Guideboat. These beautifully proportioned craft were for sportsman and their guides as well as hauling materials to build the camps themselves. Guideboat builders proliferated with many small workshops meeting the increasing needs of sportsman and their guides.
